Desk Mat Surface & Dimension Calculator
Pick a size class, surface weave and base thickness to see the desk area a mat covers and how that combination is likely to feel under a mouse and a wrist.
How these figures are derived
Coverage area is arithmetic: the nominal size class multiplied out in square metres, so a 900 x 400 mm mat is 0.36 m² and a 1200 x 600 mm mat is 0.72 m². Each option is named by its millimetre figure as well as its class, because vendor labels are not standardised and the dimensions are the only reliable identifier. Compare the depth figure against the usable depth of your own desk, measured from the front edge to the monitor base rather than taken from the desk's advertised depth.
The glide and cushioning outputs are relative positions rather than measurements. They follow the published characteristics of each surface class and base thickness: tighter and coated weaves release a mouse with less starting force than felt, low-friction skate materials move the same surface further toward the fast end, and a thicker base cushions more while raising the mousing plane. They are a coarse ordering, not a score, and a way to compare configurations against each other. They are not a coefficient of friction, and no figure on this page other than the coverage arithmetic is a measurement of any kind.
Read about thickness and cushioning before choosing a base. Compare the mat's height with your keyboard and mouse arrangement; equal thickness does not establish equal softness across different materials.
